More Valentine's Chocolates

Maybe your budget doesn't allow for the splurge of La Maison du Chocolat; or maybe you just want a smaller piece of chocolate at this time--I've found an answer:

Justin's Organic candy bars!  It was sometime last year when I found the chocolate-coated peanut butter cups and I was instantly addicted.  Some weeks I'd have the milk chocolate variety and other weeks I'd have the dark chocolate ones.  Even months later, I can't decide which I like more.  At about $2.00 a package at my local health food store, I think they're a great treat.

When I stopped to buy a package today, the young lady who usually rings up my purchase was excited to tell me that Justin's had released a new product.  Comparing it to another favorite candy bar from my childhood, I bought it too.  Rushing home to have lunch, I couldn't decide which one I would have first, but I took her advice and had the crunchy peanut butter bar.

Whereas the peanut butter cups are so much more incredibly delicious than the original cups that inspired them, I found the peanut butter bar to be quite different from its predecessor.  The nuts are more chopped and the nougat is more dense, less soft.  At first I didn't like the bar, but after three bites now I recognize that the balance of the ingredients is quite nice and rather original.  It's not the candy bar of my youth, it's something different and better.  I do recommend.

And I'm looking forward to tomorrow or the next day when I open the other package of sweets.  Happy day!

Good thing I'm starting to swim again (in advance of some exciting work coming soon).

I wonder if these are available on the West Coast. Right now after dinner I treat myself to a piece of Trader Joe's English Toffee...I don't think that you have Trader Joe's in the East??? They have some great stuff.

Adrienne, we do have Trader Joe's here, and on the East Coast (at least in Maryland and Philadelphia). These candy bars are available at Whole Foods but I avoid that place in general. TJ's is my source for nuts and dried apricots--can't live without them.

I can't imagine peanut butter and chocolate together! But willing to try it if I can it over here.

I've seen these at the market (whole foods?) but never tried them. Maybe I should.

@La Vie Quitidienne There are also some Trader Joe's in Boston. It's one of the first places that I go when I'm back in the USA!

@Joseph, Thanks for revealing your well-guarded secret. I'll have to see if I can find a place that sells the peanut butter cups in March!

Baron, I can't believe you don't have peanut butter and chocolate candy. Are you pulling my leg? Of course, your country has one of my very favorite candies (which Miss Kittie France sends to me): Cherry Ripes--extraordinary!

MK, I'll send them to you if you can't find them. Delish.
