Christkindlemarket, Chicago 2012

It was a great pleasure to join my friends this evening at the Christmas Market here in Daley Plaza, Chicago.  With a boot of gluhwein we walked through the Ornament House and found a great array of glass decorations for our trees.  Have a look:

I departed my train to find the "Santa el" waiting to go north.  Such a festive sight.

I was happy to see two of my favorite countries represented side by side:  you may choose the Sydney Opera House or the Eiffel Tour.

Of course champagne is required.

The Christmas Pickle.  Do you know this German tradition?  The pickle is hidden on the tree before the children see the tree.  The first child to find the pickle receives an extra gift from Santa.  Nice tradition, yes?

Maybe you'd like a food-themed tree.  There were many ornaments to  tempt you.  Pizza or sushi?

A massive burger with ketchup?  Breakfast?

Maybe some cheese.

In the end though, I was glad to see my namesake saint.

Merry Christmas to you all.

"To market, to market..." I too have been experiencing the joys(s) of Christmas markets in an attempt to stock the pantry for guests wishing to escape the heat of Christmas in Australia. A round of applause for your blogs throughout the year Joseph. Have a great time this season...mind you, with a shopping cart full of the goodies depicted here, one can only imagine the fun you will be having!!

That would be so cool ~ One of the definite benefits of living in a big city is the opportunities for things just like this! Thanks for sharing.

What wonderful Christmas tree ornaments! I've never heard of the Christmas pickle, even though I'm part German on my mother's side. That would have been a fun tradition to have as a child. I'll pass on the ketchup and hamburger ornaments but would happily hang some camembert on my tree. It would go well with all of the miniature Eiffel Towers.

Merry Christmas, Joseph, and thanks for taking us to your Christmas Market!

Every year I am blown away by Christmas here. At home, I think you could be forgiven for not knowing what time of year it was. Maybe the Summer sun has something to do with that.

Oh, I am very taken with those little Eiffel Tower ornaments, how fun it would be to do a 'french' themed tree.

Merry Christmas!
