NYTimes Article: The Best Nanny Money Can Buy

Have you heard about the nanny who earns $180,000 annually?  And has a $3,000 a-month apartment?  Here's a link to the NYTimes story.  I can't help but wonder if this is all true, but of course stranger things have happened.

Meanwhile, HM Queen Elizabeth is looking for a new butler.  Submit your application here.
Be forewarned, the Queen is only offering one-tenth of the nanny's salary.

Where is the prestige?

Baby, there isn't enough money in the world (or Manolos) to make me take a nanny's position.... What? Children? Excuse me, I'm an advocate for sterilization at birth.

I can't see any redeeming features to this vocation. On that basis, let those who do it be paid handsomely!

I do believe this...there are so many extremely wealthy individuals that would consider this salary small change.

As to butler to the queen, I would imagine the competition is extremely fierce...are you thinking of applying? If so good luck, just think of what wonderful things that you could blog about.

Adrienne, confidentiality clauses prevent all sorts of good stories, and from time to time I know my former employers check my blog. Or else I'd tell you about the day the princess came to lunch or when the head of state knocked over a table full of crystal glasses. Or maybe the night the comedienne caught me shoeless. (Or did I tell that one already?)

With reference to your comment - "I know what Joseph needs for Christmas. New socks!" But we're still waiting to hear the other stories...

The NYT article caused quite a sensation in Paris because everyone cued into the fact that French speaking nannies are more desirable.

Were you familiar with the Pavillion Agency prior to reading the article? I'm sure that they're going to receive a lot of applications for high paying nanny positions in the next couple of weeks!

I was one of the nannies that came to Connecticut from the mid-west in the late 80's and had a wonderful experience with the family I nannied for...

I made$180.00 dollars a week.. in 1988...

3 kids and I worked about 10 hours a day monday thru friday with some saturdays..

I loved it and I loved the family.. They had grown up with old money and were some of the only hippies I knew then that lived in Fairfield County, Connnecticut...

I then married a man from Weston, Ct and nannies for my kids in the 90's and early in 2000..

She made $600.00 a week cash and worked 9 to 4, monday thru friday..

Now I live out in the desert of the southwest and my children are teenagers and have not needed a nanny for over 6 years..

would love to hear others stories?????
