A Christmas Carol

Until two days ago this carol was unknown to me but it has haunted me since.  Please enjoy during this season.

What is this lovely fragrance wafting
Like to the scents of flow'rs in spring?
Shepherds, O tell us, whence such beauty
Hear you not heav'nly caroling?
What is this lovely fragrance wafting
Like to the scents of flow'rs in spring?

What is this light so fair, so tender
Breaking upon our wond'ring eyes?
Never the Morning Star so radiant
Followed his course o'er eastern skies.
What is this light so fair, so tender
Breaking upon our wond'ring eyes?

Shepherds, O haste with eager footsteps
Seek the Saviour, born today.
Low at His feet we lay our treasure,
Heart's adoration, love for aye.
Shepherds, O haste with eager footsteps
Seek the Saviour, born today.

Although the above transcription is not the exact one sung here, it is similar.  I understand the song to be of French origin, but have not found it yet.

I'll be back soon with regular postings.

I do know this carol. It is one of my favorites. I believe its origin is French. Often it is done with a rocking/lullaby tempo but this slower version is so nice. To me it has such a sense of just calmly breathing.

That is so lovely. I was not familiar with this song, either. Thanks for introducing it to me, Joseph.

Thank you for the moments of peace and the reminder of why we celebrate Christmas. As soon as I heard the first notes of the Christmas carol, I told myself to stop and really listen to the melody/words. It was most enjoyable.

Here's one that I didn't know, even though I've lived/spent a lot of time in the UK.
